Hmm, Should We Still Allow U.S. Torture?

Instead of worrying about other countries attacking our citizens for a change, now we get to worry about our citizens attacking others! After years of Americans torturing detainees, two representatives, Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and William Delahunt (D-MA) are proposing the “American Anti-Torture Act of 2007.”

Its goal is to ensure no abuse towards those in American custody and create a humane standard for interrogation. This is something that all our Representatives should know about and support.

“Torture is inconsistent with democratic principles of freedom and is a violation of the right to be free from cruel, unusual, and inhumane treatment at the hands of the government, a core protection embodied by the Fifth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.”

Sure, there’s been talk about the problems with torturing prisoners and a few cases of punishment, but this IS a major problem. We’ll see how far this gets in legislation…
