The Senate voted 79-14 on Thursday to override President Bush’s veto of a bill that would authorize $23 billion in new water projects. With the House having already voted 361-54 to override it on Tuesday, this is the first time Congress has overruled a presidential veto from the Bush administration. The proposed bill will help rebuild the Gulf Coast, as well as restore the Everglades and Great Lakes fisheries and fund flood-control projects nationwide. The best part?
In a statement issued after Thursday’s vote, the White House said,”No one is surprised that this veto was overridden.”
Then why did you veto it? Did you just want to be consistent? Were you looking for more reasons to insult Congress? Serves you right.
