An article in the Pioneer Press today reported that a full review of 600,000 documents captured in Iraq after the 2003 invasion found no evidence that Saddam Hussein’s regime had links with Osama bin Laden or al-Qaida.
The report, sponsored by the Pentagon, did link Saddam to some terrorist groups that operated against Shiites and Kurds, but no cooperation between al-Qaida or links to the September 11 attacks. President Bush, above thinking God knows what, and his allies alleged repeatedly during the run up to the invasion that they had “bulletproof,” to quote Donald Rumsfeld, evidence of cooperation between the two.
So along with weapons of mass destruction, the evidence of an al-Qaida link has been thoroughly discredited. I’m glad to see how competent our government was, and how they continue to defend their decision to invade. This is just further reason to throw out those who supported this war and elect representatives that will support peace.
