Klobuchar Endorses Obama

Senator Barack Obama gained the endorsement of Minnesota junior Senator and Democratic superdelegate Amy Klobuchar this morning, highlighting the increased pressure that Obama supporters are putting to Senator Hillary Clinton to abandon her presidential campaign.  Klobuchar said her decision reflected Obama’s “strong support in [Minnesota] and my own independent judgment about his abilities,” calling him “proven agent for change and advocate for middle-class Americans” and comparing him to Minnesota political legend Hubert Humphrey.  Obama won Minnesota’s Super Tuesday contest by large margins over Clinton; Klobuchar’s endorsement is also expected to help Obama’s potential general election chances in Minnesota, which some analysts label as a battleground state.

Obama has won 64 superdelegate endorsements since February 5th’s Super Tuesday primaries, while Clinton has won nine.  Clinton still holds an overall lead in pledged superdelegates, an advantage built before most nominating contests began.
