Justice to be served for Karl Rove?

Overheard on the House floor today was a comment by House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers saying,

We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.

Conyers was asked later what the comment meant, Conyers said,

We want him for so many things, it’s hard to keep track.

Karl Rove is wanted by the committee to testify about his role in framing former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman for bribery (“America Has Politica Prisoners Too!”). Siegelman was beginning to have growing influence in the Democratic Party, being the first governor to endorse Al Gore in 2000 and was seen as a huge threat to Republicans in their turf of Alabama. The former governor was later released from prison following an appeal that raised questions about the case.

Rove has repeatedly ignored requests to appear before the Judiciary committee over this matter.

Conyers further said that Rove had a week to appear before the committee or,

We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We’d hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested.

University of Iowa Students Mock Karl Rove

This past Sunday, Karl Rove was invited to speak at the University of Iowa for a cool $40,000. Unfortunately for Rove, who was recently named “worst person ever” by Keith Olbermann, was met with a fair amount of hostility from students at the University. Rove grew quite tempered at a group of students making comments during his speech, stating:

“You got a chance to ask your questions later and make your stupid statements, let me make mine.”

Two students even attempted to carry out a citizen’s arrest on Rove for the crimes he committed while working for the Bush Administration, however, the students were soon removed from the auditorium by local authorities.

When a student inquired if the University could have its money back, Rove kindly replied:

“No, you can’t”

America Has Political Prisoners Too!

Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman was sentenced to over seven years of prison and a $50,000 fine in June of 2006 for allegedly appointing someone to a state board position in return for contributions to a referendum campaign; the man had been appointed to the same position by three previous governors. Furthermore, it certainly isn’t uncommon at all to reward allies with ambassadorships. While on the surface this seems like just another corrupt politician, Siegelman may not be the one at fault. Siegelman was the first governor to endorse Al Gore in 2000 and was seen as a growing threat to the Republicans. Now, there is a growing belief that Karl Rove masterminded a plan to frame Siegelman and eliminate his growing threat to the GOP.

The story begins with Siegelman’s re-election bid in 2002, in which he was slated to win by a close margin, but then a recount showed that he had actually lost by a few thousand votes. However, this recount was committed with only Republican election officials present. Requests for another recount were rejected by then-Attorney General William H. Pryor, Jr., a Republican. James H. Gundlach, an Auburn University professor, has said it is highly likely that a from of voter fraud was present:

His paper, “A Statistical Analysis of Possible Electronic Ballot Box Stuffing,” presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the Alabama Political Science Association, makes a firm case that through “relatively simple statistical techniques” one can “identify apparent systematic electronic manipulation of voting results.”

“I make the case that this is an extremely suspicious vote,” he said in a phone interview on July 11, adding that he still stands with his findings to this day and that statisticians at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said that his paper was the “strongest statistical evidence of election theft they’ve seen.”

“Computers do not accidentally produce different totals,” he stated in the paper. “Someone is controlling the computer to produce the different results.”

Hillary and Karl Sitting in a Tree: Karl Rove Loves Hillary Clinton?

Although it has been almost five months since George Bush’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove, has resigned from office, it seems like he’s been staying busy.  Rove, who has been called the brains behind the Bush administration and the architect of Bush’s 2004 “re-election”, recently wrote a very nice editorial about Hillary Clinton in the Wall Street Journal.  Now why do you suppose that the man who once promised a “permanent Republican majority” would write such a glowing editorial about a Clinton while simultaneously calling Barack Obama a “vitamin-starved Adlai Stevenson” (among many other worse attacks)?  Do you think that it might have anything to do with the fact that voters find Obama as the candidate most likely to beat the GOP this November?  Maybe Rove knows that the best way to reclaim his “permanent Republican majority” is to make sure Hillary is the candidate his party has to beat come election day.  Read the article for yourself and let me know what you think.
